Funeral Home Open House

When the Dahlonega Chamber of Commerce announced that the Dahlonega Funeral Home would be hosting the next Tuesday After Hours members' reception, D&B was a bit skeptical. In fact, more than just a bit skeptical. After all, the only time we've been to funeral homes were...you know....for funerals.

But we were wrong. The After Hours event was quite a success.

Not knowing what to expect, we were warmly greeted at the door by Lauren McDonald, the owner/director of the Funeral Home, who directed us to the Community Room, an oversize room with lots of windows, lots of tables, and a complete kitchen.

Wanting "to do something different," the Home's personnel had decorated the room using a carnival theme, complete with banner flags, popcorn box centerpieces, and a buffet of carnival foods - corn dogs, hot dogs, chips, popcorn and lots and lots of roasted peanuts. They even gave away a $500 off a funeral coupon as one of the Chamber's door prizes. (D&B's Lamar Photography donated a beautiful picture of the Old Sautee Store.)

After the event, the owners offered a 'behind the scenes' tour, but we passed. We were, however, most impressed with the facility - meeting rooms with fireplaces, a chapel that seats over 200, and the Community Room for after-funeral family gatherings or meals.

The Dahlonega Funeral Home, which sits high on a hill, just outside of the city, is really a nice place to visit. Just not a place where you want to go anytime soon.
